Extreme Horizons are recruiting experienced Climbing Instructors and Rope Access Technicians to join our resident abseil team operating from the 85-metre high abseil platform at the Spinnaker tower in Portsmouth.
Job opportunities are available for both qualified Instructors and Ground crew. We are looking for confidant outdoor enthusiasts, who are customer-focused and have an affinity for inspiring people as this unique location provides a genuine extreme adventure. These roles mean you to have a good head for heights.
Fantastically located with stunning views across Portsmouth and the Solent. We will be working with clients who use the event as a platform to raise funding for their charities, alongside corporate events and the general public.
You will attend two days of technical training covering the range of skills needed to ensure you can run a safe, professional and memorable experience.

Pay scale: £100 – £165 – dependant on role and qualifications.
The season provides regular contracted and freelance weekend work from April-October.
We are recruiting for the following roles:
Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Lead Abseil Instructor
Technical outdoor qualifications such as: RCI / IRATA Level 1+
- Responsible for ensuring safety of clients and staff throughout the running of the event by adhering to EH operating procedures.
- Oversees coordination between abseil team, customers and Spinnaker staff to ensure effective communication and exceptional service.
- Managing technical safe working practices on-site and conducting daily checks of site.
- Coordinates safety management issues and unforeseen occurrences.
- Assist the management team with staff monitoring, and any health and safety requirements.
Abseil Instructor
Technical outdoor qualifications such as: RCI / IRATA Level 1+
- Responsible for safely managing clients throughout the abseil and liaising with Spinnaker staff.
- Assist the Lead Instructor in the rigging of abseil setups safety management procedures.
- Provide exceptional customer service during abseil experience.
Ground Crew
Formal qualifications are not required for this role as training is provided.
- Provide the bridge for effective communication between Spinnaker staff and the Abseil team.
- Responsible for providing a welcoming and reassuring face of the abseil experience.
- Manage clients kitting up and de-kiting using correct fitting procedures.
- Responsible for ground safety management.
- Greet customers as they reach the ground after their abseil and detach from the ropes.
